There are some striking and amusing moments in this critique of Berlusconi's "telecratic" Italy, but the narrative is weak, and while some elements of the family crisis are played out with gentle insight, there is also a tendency toward cloying sentimentality. As the film progresses, it seems to veer increasingly toward a directionless and only mildly diverting meandering, a feeling which is, unfortunately, only reinforced by the contrast formed by the more forcefully filmed concluding scenes.
