one more play mal-adapted for the big screen, the concept is ok, and the characters are good. too bad gardner couldn't write dialog to fit a movie and it borders on bad because of it. someone needs to tell gardner that there's a difference between the stage and the screen and changes must be made or it will fail.

Playing like Grumpy Old Men with added human interest, this is a fun and involving look at what it's like to grow old disgracefully and not be ready to give up before your time. Matthau and Davis are excellent as ever, and while it gets a little muddled with the Laurie/Cowboy subplot, it's basically two hours of social commentary, peppered with Matthau's quickfire wit. A great script, great acting... in short, a great movie.
