Oldman is his usually talented self, no one else really is, and the film seems oddly paced. Could have been a lot better.

Would've been perfect if it had stuck to his REAL life and not what was fabricated.

Only as good as it is because of Gary Oldman. This tries really hard to be something it's not ('Amadeus'), when it should've just stuck to the gripping history of it all. Still, Oldman's typically stunning as he completely transforms into Beethoven, and it makes Immortal Beloved worth seeing at least once.

Despite playing just over two hours, at no point does a St. Bernard appear. I don't even think Charles Grodin is in it!

Only as devoted fan of Beethoven music and G.Oldman performance I can say it's worth a watch.

A wonderful biopic on an intriguing personality, perfectly acted by the chameleon of all actors, Gary Oldman. He made this the same year as Leon (The Professional) and watching the two back-to-back is highly recommended.

Well done, good story. 5th Symphony sequence is really good.

Guilty pleasure, because the supporting cast is fairly weak, but I can't resist Gary Oldman.

Pretty, sensual, and moving. I really love Bernard Rose's films. He is underrated, in my opinion.

Ludwig van Beethoven, amid a fin-de-siecle altered the course of music theory and style unlike few before, and after him. And Oldman's portrayal of Beethoven captures the tormented heart of a man ravaged by shame and anger, [vicariously felt by who ever listens] ultimately leading to his seclusion from social life. A poignant film paralleling Citizen Kane structurally as well as photographically, while not on par with Kane, an indelible performance by Oldman brings tears of joy to the world.

It's no Amadeus.

Good acting, merciless story and Gary Oldman!!! The movies doesn't set out to flatter Beethoven so much as give insight to the scope of his experience and influences on his music.
