Summary: After hearing a cellmate talk about $10,000 kept in the home safe of Kansas rancher Herb Clutter, Dick Hickock (Anthony Edwards) and Perry Smith (Eric Roberts) break into the house to steal the money. The pair turns violent when they can't find the safe, killing the entire family and fleeing to Mexico. It takes Detective Alvin Dewey (Sam Neill) years to break the case and bring the men to justice.
