I am probably in the minority but I enjoyed this John Carpenter work. Helped by a really good performance by Sam Neill this had some good special effects and plenty of twists and turns. Highly recommended!

Decent enough potpourri of all things Lovecraft, and it is perhaps the best entry to tackle his bizarre universe. It's not scary, and Carmen is annoying, but it does feature Niell, Prochnow and Heston, and the ending is a beauty. Keyword here is: Decent.

Underrated. It's never crap-your-pants-scary but it's a well done Lovecraft homage and the ending is one of the best in the genre.

Probably the most accurate representation of the Lovecraftian mythos on film. While it has moments of cheese, on the whole it is a magnificently scripted film that captures the true essence of Lovecraft--the inevitability of our demise and the frailty of our conventional reality perfectly detailed within the scope of a couple of hours. Simply stunning.

An awesome combination of H.P. Lovecraft and Stephen King. As a sidenote, the DVD features the worst commentary ever. It is the director with the lighting guy, and they talk about how many and what lights were used, and where. That's all they talk about for the whole movie. Brilliant idea there, bringing in the lighting guy to talk about lights... because that is what people want to know about, not any of that boring production crap, no sir, the lights are where it's at.

Was this movie made for T.V or something? I don't think I've ever laughed so hard at a film creature before. Easily Carpenters worst movie.

Whether you take it seriously or not, it's still a thrill ride.

The ending had to have been one of the best endings in a horror movie.

It lacks the immediate punch of other Carpenter movies like Halloween or The Thing but, so long as you've got a bit of patience, it's a fun movie. Sam Neill puts on a solid performance, and Charlton Heston is great in what little screen time that he has.

Overall, not bad. Didn't like the ending but that's consistent with most horror movies. Some cheesy parts but some interesting and well shot parts too.

A little to disjointed to love, but there is a lot to like here.

14 Temmuz 2011 & donemini bilmiyorum ama simdi izlendiginde kliseler ile orulmus, korkutmayi basaramayan bir film. belki o yaratiklar gosterilmese film daha iyi olabilird.

Meta-fiction is nothing new in horror genre, but Carpenter certainly can create a dreadful atmosphere and I always liked Sam Neill's economic performances.
