Summary: Acclaimed actors Denzel Washington, Clive Owen and Jodie Foster come together to explore the lure of power, the ugliness of greed and the mystery of a perfect robbery in this combustible new crime drama. The powerhouse actors play tough New Yorkers who must outwit one another to protect competing interests in this skillfully penned and tightly helmed thriller.
Entertaining & fun thriller that has a lot of style & some good performances married with a solid script. There are some plot holes here & it's a tad too predictable, but the story is just strong & fun enough to pull through. However if there was ever a Spike film that didn't require Spike's usual fascination with race issues, this is it. It certainly does not spoil this movie, but so often it seems as if Spike desperate to fight the good fight and force it into his films in a clumsy fashion!
Spike Lee consistently comes up with interesting concepts for his film. But instead of fully making use of a particularly interesting idea, he briefly flirts with it and assents to Hollywood genre-norms.
Very smart and well-built crime movie about a bank rob. Really liked the acting, cast was toplevel, and the story, which ended in a good and clever way. They really thought this movie through, too bad there are still some minor mistakes. It has an smart plot and some really nice twists.
Loved this movie the dynamic between Clive Owen and Denzel Washington just set this movie apart from the rest in strides, loved every moment of this movie, keeps you in suspense while engaging you in the story.
The plot of this movie was one of the best I've ever heard of. Everything was thought out perfectly, and the plan was genius. Although the movie was very serious, there were some funny parts to lighten the mood. For example, during an intense scene, an older white man's phone goes off playing "Gold Digger" (a popular rap song) as his ringtone. The idea of the antagonist hiding out behind a wall and escaping later was brilliant. This movie was very enjoyable!
Watched this film at the insistence of my "date" who then proceeded to pass out on the couch from a copious amount of weed. Never been a huge fan of Spike Lee. I liked what he has to say, in general, but do not feel that he always puts his point across in the best way possible (save for Do The Right Thing). However, I found this to be a generally engaging film. Clive Owens did a fine job and kept my interest throughout.
Gives away too much too early and is about 20 minutes longer than the material at hand provides. A huge disappointment given the hype I heard from other people.
