Summary: Continuing the storyline of The Gathering Storm, Churchill at War is a look at the former British prime minister's life and career at the end of WWII. (imdb)
Gleeson gives a good performance, but it's a lot jumpier than the original production and Gleeson and McTeer's relationship lacks a lot of the good feeling of Finney and Redgrave in The Gathering Storm. Entertaining, for its length, but ultimately not as good as its predecessor might have led you to expect.
Captures British social awkwardness really nicely, and quite a vivid portrayal of very interesting times. Never seen anything like this before. High quality from HBO, as usual.
Reasonably good fun, and Churchill is one of the most interesting and quotable figures in modern history, but there are a few places where they lay it on a bit thick. Particularly the Battle of Britain speech bit, where the immortal line gets delivered 4 times inside a minute. Excellent performance from Gleeson, but overall just an OK TV movie.
Awesome portrait of a man I never knew much about, and especially cool capture of London and the UK during the war, since so many films want to take place on the front lines or the Pacific, not as many focus on what England was like. The back and forth through time was a little disorienting at times, especially since I don't know the timeline of Churchill it would've been nice to have a frame of reference in history. Very cool movie and I recommend it.
