a fairly standard flick that keeps the amusement dialed up the entire duration. it's one of those movies that's affect is worn off after a short duration, but during the movie you're completely enthralled. it's been about a week now and in shallow recollection i thought it was pretty lukewarm, but on further thought it seems as almost a hidden gem.

I'm a sucker for high concepts. They could have got more out of it but at least the film is very short. Keeping a movie around 90 minutes unless it absolutely needs to be longer is something the filmmakers of today would do well to learn.

Highly entertaining and enjoyable. Oakie in particular gives a bravura performance. Okay, so maybe some of the characters' actions are a bit inconsistent (Darnell falling so quickly for Powell, for example)...but this was after all drawn from the memoirs of an old and happily married man, which should perhaps excuse the rose-colored glasses. ;)
