Pathetic. I don't buy that the actors are acting robotic, because even if they are, it simply boils the film down to a stupidly simple "love makes everything okay, John" moral. I don't know if maybe a lot was lost in translation (Vinterberg had trouble writing a script in English, apparently), but it's just the worst possible follow-up to Festen ever. Sean Penn is more convincingly retarded in this than he was in I Am Sam, by the way.
I'm very sorry I could not put any more points for this flick, because there's so much good in it. Symbolism was nice; their surviving lovestory out of divorce was a surviving story of the entire globe. The directing was marv and both actors did they job top-notch. The main plot complicated itself unnecessarily. The Hollywood snow ending spoiled a lot the mood, though it explained how everything ended. P.S. Sean Penn was an observing angle.
Poetic, symbolic and beautiful. I just don't understand why it tries to get so complicated with it's plot when the plot isn't even what the movie's about.
It had the intention to be considered a beautiful movie, but that's the wrong attitude. Beautiful movies are just beautiful. No intention and tend to be unforgettable.
