The awful cheesiness almost made me vomit. God I hate chick flicks

Ah, the American high school movie, possibly the least ambitious genre there is. This one aims low and recycles most of its plot points, characters and scenery from prior critically-lambasted fluff-nuggets. It's weak but it's not as atrocious as some in this genre, and Samaire Armstrong is easy on the eye and relatively watchable too. You can almost feel your brain cells dying from inactivity, but then again it's a cheaper way to achieve this result than alcohol, drugs or extreme sports.

Hovers in an uncomfortable middle ground where it's way too heightened and cartoonish to connect to the characters yet not heightened and cartoonish enough to be true absurdist comedy. Also, it has the characters narrating their thoughts out loud, which is just stupid and amateurish beyond belief. And it's yet another movie where a gorgeous girl is laughably depicted as a high school outcast. The only thing I give it props for is acknowledging the girl-turned-boy's difficulty with boners.

It's so generic and predictable, it's laughable.

Wasn't smart enough to avoid this one, all the signs were there. [...] when everything is said and done, there's nothing left under the sun but to run, run, run...

What it has to say about gender is subtly regressive, as each of our heroes tackles their challenges (football game/yale interview) by conforming to their expected roles.

I saw this because of menstrual cramps, and guess what.. It made me feel better! This movie sucks but it has so much sugar that any sick person would heel just like that!

For low-grade teen highschool romancy comedies it is probably my favorite.
