Disappointing. I'm not sure what bothered me more, the wooden acting, the atrociously-choreographed fight scenes, or the blatant historical inaccuracies. (I understand the movie followed Scott's book closely, but even so it still diminishes the film if it played fast and loose with history.) Only Joan Fontaine and Elizabeth Taylor keep this film tolerable, but it was too far gone for them to fully rescue.

Great costumes. Taylor is beautiful and passionate, and the jousting is real cool. It's a pity Robert Taylor and Joan Fontaine are so wooden. This might have been a first class adventure film.

Despite the lack of my two favorite characters, this was still an exceptionally enjoyable film with some of the coolest medieval fights I've ever seen; Liz Taylor is beautiful in this. However, I still think it should have been a lot longer. P.S: This movie really succeeds in making prejudice look stupid. Man, I hate prejudice people. Oh shit :(

Fairly traditional representation of the Scott novel. A little too many banners and flags for many people's taste. A motley group of soldiers are set loose on swinging England in an initiative test to collect a selection of esoteric items. Very much of its time, Taylor underplays her role (for once) with strong supporting cast. Ok for a wet Sunday.
