The love story is wonderfully overcooked - they communicate over distance through sheer will - and the cinematography is incredible. Borzage's color choices are Vertigo-caliber.

"The film is redeemed, finally, through the sheer, crazy belief in romance that Frank Borzage imbues in the film as it goes on." - Dan Callahan

A bizarre, and I would argue, essential, entry in Borzage's filmography.
