Summary: As a child Jack Brooks witnessed the brutal murder of his family. Now a young man he struggles with a pestering girlfriend, therapy sessions that resolve nothing, and night classes that barely hold his interest. After unleashing an ancient curse, Jack's Professor undergoes a transformation into something not-quite- human, and Jack is forced to confront some old demons... along with a few new ones.
Oh my gosh this was so bad. I have no idea why they tried to set up a plot. Obviously if I'm watching a movie called "Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer" I want to see slayed monsters. There were NONE for the first 3/4s of the movie! Shoulda just skipped to the end. Gah. Such high hopes too! I love monsters!
The title is misleading as it is really the story of Jack realizing his potential and finally becoming a monster slayer only at the very end. It has a good sense of humor, which is pretty much essential in low-budget horror like this. The effects are quite good for a low-budget. It is really made for fans of cheesy horror, which I am, and I had a fun ride with this movie.
Good old fashioned rubber practicle effects. Modern day cheesy B movie nonsense, and just as enjoyable as that sounds. Looks and feels like it was made in the late 80's and there's nothing wrong with that. More please.
Has old school-style special effects (this means no CGI), an awesome story, and is short and straight to the point. Is pretty amusing too.
Tells the story of a guy named Jack, who has anger managament issues due to the death of his family at the hands of a monster. Something happens and it all spirals out of control from there.
I wish more of the new wave of horror movies was this much fun. If Troma films had huge budgets, this is EXACTLY what they would be like.
Incredibly campy. Some of it's funny but I never found it funnier than a mild chuckle. Yes it's better than your average horror movie out there but it's nothing remarkable by any standard. It's at least entertaining though so watching it isn't a chore.
the title is quite misleading, it actually doesn't get into the monster slaying until about 10 min. are left. the time leading up to the rather disappointing ending, really caught me off guard, the acting isn't bad and the special effects are definately watchable. it is however lacking in character development and decent plot, let's face it if you're thinking about watching this you just want to watch a horror movie you haven't seen yet, if that's the case then its not the worst you could pick
It's trying way too hard to be the kind of movie where the unlikely schlub becomes the big hero, and it really doesn't work. It's silly but really, it ends up feeling forced and by the end of the movie, you're still waiting for development to happen. I respect the try, but it doesn't succeed.
