This opens with the death of a woman during childbirth who doesn't even know if her husband is alive. How terrified must she have been in her last moments? I wondered if she ever got to see her baby. But this film isn't about her--it's a "comedy" about her self-entitled husband. The writing is good in places, and the cast is excellent. I simply couldn't buy the romance in this though. Seemed like a tacked-on, trite ending to what is actually a dark film about people who annoy one another.

The romantic subplot feels rush and underdone, the soundtrack is far too prominent and Mathis isn't a good enough actress to carry the role she's given, but despite all this, the movie is oddly enjoyable. Grant, McKellen and Atkins are impressive (as is Stubbs, in her brief appearance), but ultimately it's the baby that steals the show. The result is heatwarming, sure, but not a great narrative piece.

Overly melodramatic, but likably so. Grant is very good, and even though there is plenty here to be critical about if you really want to, "Jack & Sarah" is a heartwarming, strangely compelling movie.

Perhaps a minority vote, but this film can really cheer me up.

It may not be the best romantic movie but I love very much the story and how it evolves. Not sure why, though.
