Part of that movement in the years that followed Schindler's List, where people would slap together melodrama, family comedy, and Fiddler on the Roof and set it during the Holocaust. The best thing about this is Robin Williams getting the Moses beaten out of him.

Robin Williams is as good as ever, but this is just not one of the better Holocaust films.

Tries hard to ride on the 'smiles through tears'-wave originated by Life Is Beautiful - and fails miserably. Williams is even less believable than in Flubber!

This could have been twice as long or half as long it wouldn't have mattered. So it captures the limbo timelessness of the ghetto, so what. The movie plays like a serious episode of Hogan's Heroes with the actors looking like so many useless rag dolls one can only desire to have inflicted with violence. The movie is supposed to be sad, and instead its just stupid. Why do people make movies like this?
