The plot, and complexity of character interactions, is done rather well. However, the filming strikes me as very unimaginative, and lacks the flair of Hitchcock's later works. Charles Laughton plays his part brilliantly, and stands far above the rest of the acting. Makes for an enjoyable, but only mildly stimulating, watch.

Certainly not the worst movie around, but considering the director it's hard to really feel good about it. There is clearly some sophistication in the photography and you can see where Hitchcock is laying the groundwork for his later work, but Jamaica Inn in its own right is fairly mediocre to be honest.

All the right elements for a great swashbuckler. But if you're hoping for a "traditional" Hitchcock you may be disappointed. This is a different ballpark, ok? If you're into Douglas Fairbanks like pirate movies, check this out.

A bit slow and boring for my taste. I couldn't really get into this, I didn't care.
