Starts out well enough, but soon veers off into silliness. Béart is enthralling, Cluzet does his best with the poorly written role he's given.

At a certain point towards the end, this one really loses it. I so enjoyed the early bits, too.

Emmanuelle Beart. oh my. Otherwise very affecting portrayal of insane jealousy - and difficult to watch because of its accuracy.

I've seen very little by Chabrol, who doesn't seem to have any standout films or signature style. This one is a harrowing and accurate portrayal of jealousy, in my opinion the most vile and destructive of emotions. It's Hell, indeed. Paul's suspicions are at first understandable (and perhaps even warranted) but you really want to punch him in the nose more and more as time goes on. I think Chabrol pushes it too far, especially at the end, but it does make for intense viewing.

Well made, but nothing very original here.
