Summary: A planet is discovered in the same orbit as Earth's but is located on the exact opposite side of the sun, making it not visible from Earth. The European Space Exploration Council decide to send American astronaut Glenn Ross and British scientist John Kane via spaceship to explore the other planet. After a disastrous crash-landing Ross awakes to learn that Kane lies near death and that they apparently have returned to Earth, as evidenced by the presence of the Council director and his staff. Gerry and Sylvia Anderson, best known for the Thunderbirds, also wrote and produced this piece of hard science fiction, dealing with the discovery of a perfect mirror of Earth on the opposite side of the sun. An interesting idea, but one that doesn't really work as a film; the results are fairly dull and sterile, despite competent acting. The confusing climax doesn't help, although the intriguing final scene and some cool touches throughout, like the fake-eyeball spycam, do.

Talk about a mess of a movie. It's clearly inspired by the psychedelic, cryptic tone of films like 2001, but doesn't come anywhere near as close to having the same impact or meaning. It's overshadowed by this bizarre theme of sexual inadequacy, one that ultimately comes off as unresolved and possibly even morally dubious in its execution. It's even got its own "Jupiter and Beyond" style sequence that exemplifies the film's emptiness of thought. There's one good explosion to be seen, at least.

While derek meddings special effects are as superb as ever , this is a flawed attempt at a neato idea. The cars (And indeed some of the cast) would later turn up in the Andersons next TV show U.F.O (my fave TV Show of all time)
