There’s a barely there plot at play here taped together by rockin’ hooters. Can cut and paste this glowing review into any raunchy comedy from this era. Baby we have no budget but we got some boobies.

It was like a mix of a softcore porn with really bad '80s nerd movie. I'm uncomfortable with the '80s trope of rape/forcible sex as funny when there's an age difference or someone's asleep/bound. Patsy had an annoying high pitched accent and the Vidiots made annoying sounds. King Vidiot would have made an excellent Joker. Fav scene: somewhere in the middle there was almost a self-realizing parody of concerned parent vice films.

"McDorfus" (uh-huh) is the era's most blatant Bluto ripoff in both conception and resemblance to/mimicry of Belushi, and through him, valedictorian-cum-cabinet-junkie, and the unbearable Eugene, the film reveals its contempt for its characters, who are, of course, its audience. And dig King Vidiot's distinctly sexless co-existence with his hot gang of Pac-tang (he likes to "hang out in public bathrooms"). Even the hunky leader gets brutalized in one of the most bizarre movie PTSDs ever. Props.

My rating: The age you have to be to have a fathom of a chance of being entertained by this crap.

Would've rated it lower, but I love King Vidiot. He was the only good thing about this movie. Unfortunately the dvd I won at a showing was autographed by the fat gross farting guy instead.

Terrible.

I'm giving this movie a 9, because even though it was phenomenally dumb and lousy, I don't feel like it dipped down into "deliberately moronic or offensive" territory. I think the filmmakers earnestly wanted this to be like Animal House, and they just had no idea how do that, or how to make a good film to begin with. It isn't just bad, it's jaw-droppingly bad, but that's kind of entertaining too.

Possibly the worst movie of the 80s. I'll give it 5 points because I don't believe you could make a worse movie than this, even if you were trying to (with all due respect to Uwe Boll), which is some kind of achievement in itself.

I wish those people wouldn't stick out their tongue so much. It's disgusting. And the intro song is absolutely terrible. Oh and that synth tune, my ears bled every time I heard that. "Totally awesome video gaaaaaame"

A sleazy, sloppy, hackneyed sex comedy trying desperately to be PORKY'S at the video arcade, JOYSTICKS is a depressing parade of objectification and possesses no redeeming value outside of Jon Gries' intensely committed performance as a coin-op obsessed punk rocker calling himself "King Vidiot."

Pretty fuckin' awesome movie

While not quite providing the same anarchic euphoria as Screwballs, the ultimate T+A comedy after Porky's, Joysticks nonetheless hits most of the right buttons (no pun!), and the generation gap is depicted in a humorously exaggerated way. i.e.most of the oldies are 'stiffs' who don't 'get it' and the young bucks are obsessed with video games and sex. King Vidiot is a memorably dumb character, and Jefferson's psychological 'trauma' that prevents him from playing games is delightfully absurd.
