Some unknown maniac is threatening a navigation company to blow up one of its luxury transatlantics, the "Britannic", now in high sea with 1200 passengers. He is asking for a £500,000 ransom, otherwise the 7 bombs aboard will explode. An experienced anti-bomb squad is sent to the "Britannic", but although all the bombs are located, a very high skill level will be necessary to dismantle them. Perhaps that task is impossible... A very British disaster film. Good cast.

Fairly standard "defuse all the bombs before everybody dies" plot. Might have been better with more action, or acting, or... something?

Nearly as entertaining as the Macgyver episode that ripped it off. Richard Harris, as usual, thinks he's playing Richard III on stage but, hey, still fun viewing.

Here's something you don't see anymore: A big-budget British disaster film with an all-star cast. Unlike its American counterparts, this film is more cynical and critical, and while it still isn't much more than a semi-entertaining thriller, it hasn't dated as poorly as The Poseidon Adventure or The Towering Inferno (and Anthony Hopkins' 70s hair is awesome).

A surprising entry from Richard Lester. It's a much better film than its pieces might suggest. It's tense, entertaining and believable. I'm not sure it counts as a '70s disaster film, but it might be the best if it does.

Superior disaster-thriller about a cruise ship threatened by a mysterious bomber, and the maverick bomb-disposal expert (Richard Harris) brought in to save it. Subverts the tropes of the disaster genre while being a fine example of it; a strong, funny, unsentimental script combines with first-rate performances (especially Harris') from an excellent cast to create a top-notch piece of entertainment. One of Lester's finest.

I mean, I like the look and all, but that 70s dry, grounded semi-documentary style is just a weird choice for any kind of genre movie, I feel. No music, no suspense, no structure... And the minor characters are really uninteresting in this one. Especially the captain and his lady friend.
