The redneck serial killer and his dimwit girlfriend are outfitted, by Pitt and Lewis respectively, with Southern accents designed for maximum mockery and insult -- providing what little (and low) entertainment there is to be had in the movie. It is far too little, however, to stand up to the final, protracted, depressingly formulaic spree of gore. Much less to the continuous and oblivious music-video visuals.

Kalifornia is a good film, although it's only really entertaining for its first half. After everyone becomes aware that a serial killer is in the pack, we lose interest and I found my interest waning. The performances and the characters brought out because of these performances held my attention and kept the film watchable. I just wish it maintained the good start that it got off to, or shortened its second half to ensure that it doesn't feel like it's dragging on.

Stylish and slick, full of cruelty and irony but ultimately hollow, this movie culminates in extreme violence staged in a mannequin-populated model home at the center of the Dreamland nuclear testing site. (Insert symbolic interpretation here.) Partially redeemed by the detached cool of an emotionally distant Duchovny narration, two mannered but amusing performances from Pitt and Lewis, and the unsmiling elegance of Michelle Forbes.

In a review of this film, Roger Ebert wrote: “Dominic Sena is a director unknown to me, but he shows the kind of mastery of material here that I’ve seen in other early films such as Martin Scorsese’s Mean Streets, Terence [sic] Malick’s Badlands…”. He gave it four stars out of four. It is one of my least favourite movies of all time.

My god, the 'probable score' for this is 61? Probable? What kind of use of that word is this?

Worth watching to see what an awesome actor Brad Pitt can be but the movie itself isn't very good. I hated Duchovny's voice over narration and his girlfriend is an awful actress. Pretty bad writing too.

One if Brad's earlier roles that cemented him in my mind as a new, rising great character lead... Juliette Lewis is also great as... Well, you know, as that Juliette Lewis-type girl she does so well... Great psychological character study...

An almost-great movie that can’t quite stick the landing – outstanding for the first half, as Duchovny convincingly succumbs to Pitt’s seductive appeal, mirroring Lewis’ hopeless, doomed infatuation – given Pitt’s true nature is front-loaded, the only suspense comes in waiting for him to crack which ultimately breaks the tension and takes the film down a more familiar path in the second half. Definitely gets points for having the ultimate courage of its convictions.

Brad Pitt is surprisingly effective as a redneck psycho killer and there's some real tension in this flick. Unfortunately a bunch of it is undone by Duchovny's bad acting.

karikatür karakterler ve olay gelişimi eğlendirse de filmin hayli ciddi olmaya çalışan tavrı kendini boş eğlenceye bırakma halini engelliyor ve oradan buradan belli parçaları alıp tam birleştiremeyen garip bir kolaja dönüşüyor iş.

"Put your titty back Adele." This is actually one of Pitt's better roles, Lewis is convincing as an idiot but Duchovny and Forbes are wooden and awful.

This movie deserves more attention than it gets. Its an entertaining thrill ride that exhibits Brad Pitts talents before he had reached his prime. Duchovny is good as always, and this all-star cast pre all stardom is funt o watch in and of itself.

A good concept marred by sitcom acting (barring Pitt), 1990s soft-core porno music and poor screenwriting. The narration comes off as not only completely cliché, but ultimately as far too self-aware. Give it a pass.

A pretty trashy film, but a deliciously interesting one that's quite well done. I must admit I find Early Grayce (boy do I hate that name) as funny as he is horrible, so there's that too. Though I only have the faintest ideas of what else she's done, Michelle Forbes is great in this.

This little thriller about a serial killer and his girlfriend taking a road trip to California with a writer and his girl while visiting murder sites ( for the book of the writer) , starring a brad Pitt before he was even big time, delivers on all fronts. Original, good script, excellent acting, and good pacing makes an effective thriller.

An unknown Pitt movie. Great acting by him and most of all by Juliette Lewis (Damn!)! Not impressed at all by David Duchovny yet again.. Anyway.., regarding the movie: not a great story, but a great movie non the less!

The film was extremely predictable, the only thing I really liked was the end kill, although it wasn't very memorable because I only remember that I liked it.

If you filtered Badlands through True Romance, you'd wind up with Kalifornia, which makes for a pretty fun, albeit goofy, film. Unfortunately, two things that I can't stand feature prominently: bad voice-over narration (this guy is supposed to be a professional writer?), and Juliette Lewis, who plays every performance as if she's a high-functioning retard. Pitt, however, is great, and it's an interesting time capsule of early-90s "cool" crime cinema.

Violent, gritty, and quite compelling. Brad Pitt proves here that he really is a great actor, despite his place as a Hollywood pretty boy (he's anything but pretty in this film). A perfect "road trip from hell" movie with some really disturbing moments.

A disturbing, powerful watch at times. Brad Pitt is on solid form, convincingly erratic; the movie as a whole builds a sense of overwhelming dread with ease. It wasn't an instant favourite for me, but I think it works well.

Pitt breaks his vicious character open with an alarming derangement, but it's Lewis who leaves you trembling after a handful of mesmerizing monologues, the descent of her character, and just the pure, tragic naivete she evokes. There are even moments where she leaves the loudest silences between her line and the next character's, during a few of which I actually felt like I understood something about the harshest realities of the harm society's dregs and failures inflict on themselves.
