Set in rural eastern Europe this wonderful take on the rape-revenge genre has a unusual feel to it.This is not the usual eastern-Europe-is-creepy-and-filled-with-creepy-people show known from torture-porn, but rather a slow paced, elegiac journey into the landscape and the moral dilemma of the title role. Hilda Péter is mesmerizing as the fragile but determined and energetic Katalin Varga; and a thrilling finale will have you on the edge of your seat as black and white turns...greyish.

Visually stunning and it lingers on in some scenes making it seem longer, and a bit more fullfilling, than the 80mins.

Against the odds Peter Strickland has managed to make a stunning and elegiac revenge film that is as beautiful as it is tragic.

Very good music.

Thought provoking timeless story of the search for revenge and redemption. I found the shaky, lingering camera work, mood music and slightly cliched naturalistic views a bit repetitive in the first half of the film but by the end I had been totally drawn into the story.
