Summary: Balan (Sreenivasan) is an old-fashioned barber in the village of Melukavu who is struggling to make ends meet in the face of competition from Saran's (Jagadish) modern salon. One day, superstar actor Ashok Raj (Mammootty) comes for a movie shoot in his village. Balan makes the mistake of telling his family that he knew Ashok Raj from 25 years ago. This news leaks & soon spreads across the whole village & Balan comes under pressure from friends & family to get Ashok Raj to do them various favors. (by iceblox)

'Katha Parayumbol' is a nostalgic return to the good old days of Malayalam cinema with a down-to-earth story, realistic characters and a countrified setting. Sreenivasan as the hapless 'Barber Balan' is one of the most memorable characters of recent Malayalam cinema. Mammootty's character's speech at the village school towards the ending and the climax when he and Sreenivasan's character reunite made me quite emotional.
