It is very much an Eastern take on the Western. From the rugged men who are protecting the land, to the equally rugged, and beautiful it must be said, shots of said land, in a frontier of civilisation where life is harsh and the elements are cruel. And the elements are very much presented as cruel here, merciless and unbiased in the harm they can reak. The relentlessness of nature in this film makes it unpredictable and shocking and the look at Tibetan culture is very interesting.

An interesting setting and story, but the movie never really lets you into the heads of the characters.

Impressive. Breathtaking scenery, heart gripping story. I was deeply impressed. A little juwel from chinese cinema.
