Summary: Half-breed Keoma (Franco Nero) returns to his border hometown after service in the Civil War and finds it under the control of Caldwell, an ex-Confederate raider, and his vicious gang of thugs. To make matters worse, Keoma's three half-brothers have joined forces with Caldwell, and make it painfully clear that his return is an unwelcome one. Determined to break Caldwell and his brothers' grip on the town, Keoma partners with his father's former ranch hand to exact violent revenge. (imdb)

2 thumbs up for this classic western that features a unique performance by Nero, 1 of the greatest soundtracks ever, lots of cult action, almost no cliches at all and 2 of the most moving scenes in film history. For me, the most important role of cinema is to speak with emotions, to play with feelings, to awaken memories. Sometimes it's hard to describe & justify your feelings about a film. So why I liked "Keoma" very much? For many reasons. Some of them mentioned above. But mainly just because.

Imagine a voice combination of Geddy Lee from the rock group Rush and Melanie who sings "Brand New Key" and that might give you an inkling of how nightmarishly awful the woman singing on the soundtrack to this movie sounds. Keoma is way too stupid and irritating on its own without getting stuck with easily one of the worst soundtracks ever recorded.

A surreal and violent end to the spaghetti western cycle. Dreadful soundtrack, though.

Franco Nero plays a strikingly hairy half-breed with an Italian accent in this odd film. The infamous soundtrack wasn't so bad at first (reminded me of the band Comus) but as the film goes on the singing is more intrusive, which is sad 'cause the music sans vocals is very cool. Castellari likes to mimick Peckinpah's slo-mo images of people being shot, and it's pretty cool at some parts but is mostly sloppy. But the film is unique enough for me to recommend to genre fans. I'd re-watch

Franco Nero is made over to look a bit like Charlie Manson as Keoma, your dime-a-dozen "fastest gun in the west" but with a hippie hairdo. He pisses off a big-shot bad-guy named Caldwell, and his own three asshole brothers (one of whom is a Donald Sutherland lookalike) who work for Caldwell, but against all odds he perpetually kicks their butts. There's a King-Learish element at work. The soundtrack is ridiculous. Contrary to many spaghetti westerns, there is no humor.

My two cents on the soundtrack: it sounded like a bad Jefferson Airplane clone with guest vocals by a drunk Arnold Schwarzenegger.
