Edward G. Robinson puts in another impressive performance in this boxing film. Bette Davis is also very good and Wayne Morris does a fine job. The story revolves around the corruption of boxing and it is very entertaining.

Three stars of Warner Bros meets in this a little too melodramatic, but still entertaining film. Besides the three stars, Wayne Morris came as a great surprise. He pulled really good role of a naive country bumpkin. The plot is really cliche ridden, but the solid directing by Curtiz pulls this film above most of gangster dramas of the 40's.

An awesome cast puts on faces, melodrama kept to themselves, with the help of great direction and a tugging classic story. The way Curtiz balanced what each character knew about the other was fantastic and alluring enough to keep my eyes open and glued to the screen. That plus the sheer thrill and involvment of the boxing storyline make this a classic.
