A hodgepodge of interesting, albeit not terribly subtle, themes (capitalism is evil, dudes!) marred by some rather perfunctory horror movie plotting and a terribly trite ending. Certainly ominous and brutal in spurts, but problematic all the same. Still, I find it fascinating to think about.

Plot is just too random to make sense, and every time I see a review for this film saying how it is a commentary on contemporary society I cringe. While it might have worked as a slasher, the whole family drama aspect is poorly made. ...And then comes helicopter and cultists...

Unusual and effective thriller that gradually builds toward a turn to horror, but suffers from a conclusion that seems rushed and paradoxical. Skilfully put together, with a number of interesting aspects, but hard not to feel that rethinking the third act would have resulted in a stronger film.

Disjointed. The ending doesn't fit at all. It completely genre flips. Starts out as a drama / thriller, ends up as a horror film, which ripped off A Serbian FIlm. The whole set up wasn't bad, but wasn't exactly good either, the ending was just shit that wasn't even really related to the rest of the movie. What a complete mess. Lot's of unnecessary gore too.

I'm not sure I liked the pay-off, but the build-up of tension in this film is so beautifully crafted that it takes it out of its genre boundaries. The naturalistic acting is excellent, and the fractured editing gives it a nightmarish quality. It is also sickeningly violent. Wheatley is definitely one to watch.

Not sure what I just saw, or the motivations behind some of the characters in the third act, but I sure enjoyed the tension. Most of the film feels like that last paranoia-filled day from Goodfellas. Very well done.

Exceptionally weird and reminiscent of both "The Wicker Man" and "Dead Man's Shoes", Wheatley's sophomore effort is nothing if not unique. Believable performances, an abrupt shift from family drama to surreal horror and interesting use/blurring of (body) space come together both awkwardly and memorably. The much-maligned ending suited the film perfectly.

I've started ignoring reviews that bash a movie because of its ending, as I've found this almost always means there wasn't a 5 minute exposition scene at the end explaining the whole story for those viewers who spent too much time fingering their dates as opposed to actually paying attention--which would have enabled them to come to their own conclusions. That said, this movie will mess with your mind in ways Freud couldn't have imagined...even if he had the help of some good Romanian wormwood.

"Kill List" is a strange one. Almost everything is masterfully executed, which makes the payoff all the more frustrating. All the cast do an amazing job and the chemistry between the three leads comes across as very natural and believable, the atmosphere and mood are unsettling, the sporadic violence is like if "Drive" was competent in its use and the blending of genres is seamless. The problem comes with the narrative. It probably requires a second watch but everything is far too ambiguous.

I was not particularly impressed by the narrative twist -- a crude hitman thriller turned into a horror of bloody rituals --, because the build up is shocking enough -- the parents fighting all the time, men getting butchered -- to make the whole thing quite creepy.

Part Boondock Saints, part satanic Wicker Man, it's all over-the-top and pretty excessive. Parts of that work (man, I can't remember the last time I actually opted to not watch a bit of violence but sure enough it happened here twice), other parts push your limits of disbelief a bit too far.

A bit of an odd one as it transcends genres which can leave you baffled after everything's said and done. Looking back however, there are hints of continuity and a foreshadowing of things to come. With that in mind we are left with something which is disturbing yet also intriguing and polarizing. As far as nit picking goes I did find the dialogue rather unintelligible at times which is a bit of a bother. Other than that I'd recommend this to those in need of something 'different'. Brrr.

It's pretty much a re-imagining of Boondock Saints, which would be bad enough, but this film's idiocy spans multiple genres. Kill List features a predicable plot with a schizophrenic tone and culminates in a climax so absurd and mind-numbingly retarded that it could have been written by a senior citizen who fell down a flight of stairs and suffered a subdural hematoma.

Starting out in the social realism end of the spectrum, and relying on some great performances, this wonderful and nasty little gem moves seamlessly through different genres, detaching itself more and more from the real before climaxing in a beautifully absurd final act. The abrupt ending is pretty annoying, but all in all Kill List doesn't disappoint.

The coolest thing about Kill List is how it starts out as a drama and slowly becomes something much weirder and darker, with moody music, strange events and gruesome violence to create an unsettling atmosphere. Unique, but would have benefited from an actual ending. As it stands, the experience isn't satisfying enough. A shame, since I was digging the mystery, acting and cinematography.

An oppressive and unsettling atmosphere is perfectly evoked, aided by a brilliant score and natural performances, all of which come together in a genuinely interesting genre-bender that is part family drama, part hitman film, part horror movie. However when it comes to paying it all off, the whole thing comes apart with an ending that is unearned thematically, logically and emotionally.
