Summary: Richard, raffish heir to the throne of Laurentia, accepts exile in order to live with the woman he loves - Marta Karillos. After seven years, however, on the death of his father, he is persuaded to return, to succeed to the throne, and to accept a proxy marriage to Princess Cristiane of Norseland.
