Summary: Larsen, an aspiring poet in 20's Oslo, leaves his girlfriend to spend a year as a trapper in East Greenland. There he is teamed with a seemingly rough old sailor/trapper, Randbek, and a scientist, Holm. Trapped in a tiny hut together as the arctic winter sets in, a complex and intense love/hate relationship develops between Randbek and Larsen, who are more similar than either would like to admit. A powerful psychological and physical drama set against stunningly bleak arctic scenery. (imdb)

Claustrophobic psychological drama set in the wastes of Greenland. The acting is great, the setting convincingly (and brutally) portrayed and the film makes an interesting examination of love and happiness. But perhaps this last strength is its failing: the complexity of Skarsgard's character means that it fails somewhat as a thriller.

Excellent acting and stunning scenery make this consistently entertaining. The film in general doesn't keep up the same standard though. The film feels a little fractured from the beginning, as it seems to aim for an amalgam of drama and thriller. By the end, it's just repetition of the same lame point about Larsen. I found the hunting and dog-punching really hard to watch, too. An interesting effort, but not so good.

Strong acting is really the core of this film, most of which consists of three characters supporting and sabotaging each other. At times it gets a little old and the ending could have been better but it's very engaging for the most part.

It loses steam towards the end when it stops developing its characters and repeats things we already know that doesn't need to be told again. Great Sundquist-role here which is at least a bit different from most of the roles he plays.
