Summary: In 1959, a time capsule is buried at an elementary school. One pupil's contribution is a strange letter containing a long sequence of numbers. Fifty years later the capsule is opened, and the contents distributed. The father of the boy who receives the strange letter is a university professor, who begins to discern a bizarre significance to the numeric string, leading him deeper and deeper into questions about the nature of the universe and the future of terrestrial life.

it perhaps relies on it's flashy cgi destruction scenes a bit (and who can complain really? there's some amazing stuff in there.), but it really is a very worth-while and fun story. Cage does fine. get over yourselves.

Well I enjoyed it! There's something about Nicholas Cage's "acting" that I find curiously compelling, and I'm also a sucker for storylines like this. The ending sucks, though.

As an entire experience Knowing is a chore to get through. Though it has some tense moments the overarching story is about as interesting as all those other disaster films. Additionally it's getting tremendously tedious how in Hollywood disaster films "meaning" and the incorporation of "faith" in some sort of higher power, often Christian, get shoehorned into everything. Oh and the "EE" twist is so forced it melts the mind.
