It's generic as all hell, but fans of cornball 80s fantasy like myself will probably find it at least ironically enjoyable. James Horner's epic score on the other hand is unironically awesome and would fit even in a better movie. I love how well over half of Colwyn's companions literally don't do a single thing except die dramatically.

The camp/cheese factor is right off the scale for this one. It can't decide whether it wants to rip off Star Wars or Conan, so it just rips them both and mashes them into this incongruous mess where people have swords that shoot lasers. Corny dialog (delivered in earnest!), truly wretched fight "choreography" (imagine children improvising light saber duels with cardboard tubes), laughable composite/matte effects, really badly designed indoor sets...it just goes on and on. Watch it high.

Fun movie. If I'd seen Krull when I was a kid I would have loved it.

This is the little low budget film that wanted to be an epic. It has a grand idea and some decent set designs right alongside some cheesy effects and one really lame ass final battle. It tries really really hard to be something great and it succeeds at being pretty decent.

A huge favorite of mine when I was a kid; it's associated with so many great childhood memories. I showed it to my own kids recently, and they were less than enchanted. And, truth be told, this thing really is pretty incoherent. But I refuse not to love it.

James Horner's score truly deserved a better movie around it, if the assignment was "do a Star Wars" he's the only one that made par. Still, it has enough bizarre 80's fantasy/adventure charm to scratch that particular itch

I'm surprised how often I hear this referred to as a "so bad it's good" or B movie. I went into it expecting Roger Corman levels of exploitation, but in fact there's no sex and fairly reserved violence. It's a legitimately good fantasy adventure movie. It's not quite on the level of something like Princess Bride or Dark Crystal, but I'd count it in the same family. I think Krull deserves more recognition for what it is.

This film is based around one big gimmick weapon but if you're going to have a gimmick make it the best one possible. There's nothing that beats a giant ninja star with retractable blades. The unusual sci-fi setting with swords also makes this much more interesting than the majority of 80's cheese. It's a must see if you love B-movies.

Is this a good movie? Nope. Is bad? Not really. But damn it's interesting. This is the movie equivalent of throwing everything but the sink at a problem. A hero. A wizard. A cyclops. A bad wizard. Thieves. Liam Neason and Robbie Coltrane. Those are some parts of the world's worst possé that is our heros. Way to slow. Irritating punchable face lead character. But damn it if I don't love it for trying. Trying and failing though. But trying at least.

Peter Yates' fantasy (with odd sci-fi trimmings) feels like a groundbreakingly generic work. The fantastical world of the film is the same faux-Tolkein/faux-Arthurian silliness that has choked so much latter-day fantasy; that said, KRULL is competently made and passably entertaining. Freddie Jones isn't too bad as the Obi-Wan-esque Ynyr, while Liam Neeson and Robbie Coltrane make welcome early appearances. The script is poor, with weak comic relief, but the production design is truly stunning.

A fine James Horner score and some imaginative set design are the highlights in an otherwise mediocre fantasy story. The action and dialogue leave much to be desired, and aside from the stoic, heroic cyclops, the characters are all either mundane or downright annoying. The presence of future stars Neeson and Coltrane does afford it a modicum of extra appeal.

Half-watchable thanks to everything being an ambitious experiment. The castle interior has some great design, I love the scenics when they're actually outside, and the spider web sequence is something else, but everything else is mired in cliché. The climactic battle against The Beast is a notable letdown.

This imaginative world-creation combines Dune, LOTR, Star Wars, and much of the dark fantasy sci-fi crossover from Lovecraft onwards. The sets are amazing, the acting badly choreographed and therefore unconvincing, the music fairly decent, and the adventure compelling. This movie is an example of management dysfunction: all of the elements are good, but the script was written by committee and the execution is more appropriate to a musical than an adventure film.

Great visuals except for some bad blue/green screen. Serial macguffin quests makes for bulk of run time. 2-3 odd edits and confusing scenes where clearly some footage is missing, addition reaction shots and/or dialogue could have helped.

Fantasy adventure - good for its time but simplistic and dated now. Something akin to Lord of the Rings very light. Effects were good for their time but the story is just too light to be really impressive. A lightweight and predictable ending. OK if you like the genre but otherwise give it a miss.

Never have a seen such a dull movie with such a tremendous, exciting score. A man walks up a rock for 15 straight minutes. It is like watching your friend's vacation videos, except John William's did the score for them.

Lord of the Rings scrubbed with just enough Excalibur to take the lawyers off the scent; while wreaking of Star Wars. But it has an excellent production design and elaborate SFX that on more than one occasion impress. The interiors of the castle is like something Giger would design. The sheer audacity of this film makes it worth seeing. [Rifftrax: Harps a little too much on "what is Krull?" but other than that works more for its jokes than it really had too so there's still many fresh laughs.]

I enjoyed myself! There were some very standard fantasy parts, some very standard Star Wars ripoff parts, and some draggy and slow parts, but there was also genuine humor, genuine horror, and some pretty good action. Plus, some truly startling practical effects.

The problem with this film everything happens so fast that nothing makes sense. They meet first time, next minute they are like Romeo & Juliet and marrying. Bandits assault good guys, next minute they are all friends that could die for each other.

A weird sci-fi/fantasy genre rip-off of Star Wars, there's some good imagery and idea here, though the actual effects can't always match the ambition of them. The plot is fairly basic and the love conquers all ending is trite and unsatisfying, but the journey itself has it's moments though it lacks an epic feel. Krull has some decent characters, but the lead is flat and uninteresting. This needed better casting and a rewrite or two of the plot to elevate it above 'if nothing else is on' fare.

Krull fucking sucks. The spider is a nice effect, even though the scene itself is boring as hell, and the Black Fortress has some nice scenery. But the characters are bland as shit, the fucking glaive does nothing and everything is aweful. Only watchable if you wanna see some early Liam Neesons and Robby Coltrane roles.
