Summary: After rocker Kurt Cobain's death, ruled a suicide, a film crew arrives in Seattle to make a documentary. Director Nick Broomfield talks to lots of people: Cobain's aunt who provides home movies and recordings, the estranged father of Cobain's widow Courtney Love, an L.A. private investigator who worked for Love, a nanny for Kurt and Courtney's child, friends and lovers of both, and others. Although Love won't talk to him and his inquiries lose him financial backing, he comes to believe the coroner's verdict. (imdb)

Horrifically self-aggrandising, Broomfield appears to set out with no intention beyond deifying Cobain, slandering Love and gathering inane statements from anyone with the merest inkling of a connection to the suicide. The result is the epitome of lowest-common-denominator documentary-making; it's bland, uninteresting, and without an argument, feels as though it was put together in a great hurry, and relies on blatant sensationalism before journalistic integrity. An absolute waste of time.

Wow - what a rotten, sorry-ass bunch of pox-ridden, sore-picking, sketched-out, incoherent "near Curt"s. A veritable scuzbagfest! That Nick Broomfield weasel needs the ol' 16-ton weight dropped on him. Cousin It probably would make a better journalist. When Courtney's fuzznuts of a dad said "it was the best of times, it was the worst of times" I almost did an Elvis on the TV. So - does El Duce go down for providing the ultimate "oops moment" of all time? Well, he DID go down. What a shitumentary

This was a complete waste of time. Broomfield doesn't pretend to be partial, blasting Love early and often for daring to be upset over being labeled a suspect in her husband's murder. No shit. I wouldn't mind the obvious bias if he had uncovered anything interest: he hasn't. Conjecture from doped up nobodies doesn't count. Things threaten to rise above tedium exactly twice and on the verge of a potentially explosive confrontation he drolly informs us, "the camera's battery ran out." Seriously.
