Summary: The Audience follows the course of a catholic young man, Amedeo, which left its cheap native, in the north of Italy, to come to Rome, with an obsession: to obtain a private audience of the Pope Paul VI with whom it has revelations very important to make. The determination of Amedeo is such as it appears suspect with the authorities of the Vatican.

Amusing low key black comedy about Janacci's Kafkaesque efforts to secure an audience with the Pope. Marvellous jabs at the dogmatism of bureauracy (only amplified by religious dogma) makes for an at times hilariously frustrating tale, aided immeasurably by Jannaci's hangdog performance, and copious beautiful shots of the always lovely Cardinale. Leads to a surprisingly bleak, but completely perfect, conclusion.
