The problem is about the main plot, between those two lovers. Each small plot is pictured in a different style here on this movie. My problem is about the lovers' poetic moments. At least the rest of the movie is not like that.

Terrific visually. If you like photography--particularly of a rural French seaside town, you'll love this. The comparison between the tensions of the married couple and the tensions between the town work well. A wonderful film. I need to see more of Varda's films!

Impressive debut. Both building off the groundwork of former movements, and pointing the way to the future. On the slight negative, the text and actors [mainly, the 'love love love' section], while satisfactory, could have used more work.

All the village stuff is marvelous and interesting and real. The married couple, however, is a drag. "They talk too much to be happy", proclaims their sister-in-law, and I agree. The two are constantly dissecting their relationship in detached, abstract tones. Whenever they come on screen, I tune out and admire the slick camerawork. Towards the end, their story becomes more engaging as it gets resolved, but all the talk talk talk about the nature of their love for each other is pretty tedious.

A masterful work executed with such flawlessness and confidence that I cannot even describe it without feeling a surge of insecurity over the film's vast superiority over this viewer. Every single shot of the couple is beautifully and expertly executed and shows unintentional mastery of film theory. The theme of memory, the contrasts, everything about the film is beautifully and expertly executed! The film is so much more subtle and poignant than my review is that it does not deserve this.
