Summary: Lady Vengeance is the third film from Park Chanwook's revenge trilogy following "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance" and "Oldboy". Lee Geum-Ja, at the age of 19, goes to prison for the murder and abduction of a child on behalf of her accomplice Mr. Baek, only to find out that she is betrayed. While in prison, she carefully prepares for her revenge by winning the hearts of her fellow inmates with her kindness, thus earning herself the nickname 'kind Ms. Geum-Ja.' (imdb)

The best in Park's Vengeance trilogy (even if Oldboy is very good). It has neither the absurdity of Oldboy nor the unbearably drab misanthropy of Mr Vengeance, and instead is an incredibly sleek, stylish, beautifully made film that manages to have a surprisingly rich, powerful emotional core as well as the most thourough and interesting look at vengeance of the trilogy. Vengeance as redemption, redemption as loss of innocence, loss of innocence as an attempt to start anew.

All the would-be-titillating quirkiness and violence that Chan-wook throws at the viewer cannot disguise Lady Vengeance's callowness and tedium. Much unlike Chan-wook's later Thirst, it cannot sustain interest or excitement in its off-kilter narrative. Instead, you're left rolling your eyes at its broadness and warped morality.

What an emotional rollercoaster. The vivid imagery, combined with great acting all-over and the dark subject matter leads to a daring, fascinating film. The movie slows down for the uncomfortable and haunting finale that feels like a 30-minute punch to the gut. There's so much to admire here, or be (rightly) repulsed by. Fantastic.

A contender for my favorite film of the decade. It's bold, edgy, funny, unpredictable, thought provoking and best of all, moving. The other entries in the vengeance trilogy are top quality too, but I love the dark neofeminist tones running through this the most. Just be prepared for the sharp 180 degree turn it takes halfway through.

Obviously similar to but much superior to Oldboy. I find the morality a bit all over the place. Yes, revenge ain't easy, I get that. What I don't fully understand is how the movie judges its characters. Is it Christian? Is it amoral? Is it pitiful and self-serving? I'm definitely leaning towards the latter but I really wonder if Park would agree.

Never stops being anything less than riotously entertaining. Much funnier than I thought, even during the brutal (and cathartic) final scenes. I liked it even better than Mr. Vengeance and Oldboy.

Just not as good, or compelling or as vicious as Oldboy. Few things are, but it feels like flat, like the directors heart isn't it. Also, bedevilled by editing clever-dickery. And yet still ahead of half of Hollywood.

The weakest of Park's Vengeance Trilogy, it's still a shocking and violent exploration of how far a person can be driven by desire for revenge. Yeong-ae Lee's portrayal of Geum-ja is both achingly sad and terrifying.
