AKA: Chinjeolhan geumjassi
Summary: Lady Vengeance is the third film from Park Chanwook's revenge trilogy following "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance" and "Oldboy". Lee Geum-Ja, at the age of 19, goes to prison for the murder and abduction of a child on behalf of her accomplice Mr. Baek, only to find out that she is betrayed. While in prison, she carefully prepares for her revenge by winning the hearts of her fellow inmates with her kindness, thus earning herself the nickname 'kind Ms. Geum-Ja.' (imdb)

Just not as good, or compelling or as vicious as Oldboy. Few things are, but it feels like flat, like the directors heart isn't it. Also, bedevilled by editing clever-dickery. And yet still ahead of half of Hollywood.

While the film is wonderfully complex and nuanced in its exploration of conventional understandings of femininity (you could write dissertations on this film), it ultimately just lacks that engaging quality of the predecessors. Park focuses too much on elegance and grace that he neglects the emotional fervor that made his previous films so stirring.

A slight disappointment for me. While the acting, visuals and music were top-notch and the suspense was excellent for most of the film, the story became a little obvious and uncompelling for the last third of the film. I loved the pitch-black humor that Park injects into a lot of the scenes.

Very interesting to see a woman lead character in a film like this, and she blew me away. In all honesty Lady Vengeance did nothing for me for about the first hour, but when the parents confront the killer, and the scenes that ensue and come before it are job droppingly fantastic and at the same time horrifying. A smart picture that looks beautiful as well. Inferior to Oldboy, but definitely worthy.

Difficult film to digest because at times the viewer is hit with so many emotions at once that it takes awhile to absorb what you are experiencing. Lady Vengeance is about redemption, failure, and the dissatisfaction of vengeance. There is no dumbed down Hollywood moment where a smug heroine walks off into the sunset in glory there is only sadness at life. The last 30 minutes of the film are simply stunning and a reflection of what vengeance really does to individuals.

A little slow to start, but a very good movie overall. Extremely weird and a little sickening at parts, as Park's films always are, but a wonderful story. Has an interesting firearms political commentary throughout it.

Everyone I've talked to is so disappointed by this one in relation to its predecessors, but I can't figure out why. I find it just as engaging and beautiful as all of Chan-wook's films.

Again a strong female lead actor, great effects, breathtaking score and positively unconvetional directing. There is a lot of powerful scenes (though some lame ones as well) and mainly the story is okay, but the end is pretty much fall down, because it lasts way too long and it breaks othewise more or less accurate pacing.

Great movie about revenge. The style is a bit of a mix of Oldboy and Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance but the movie fails to live up to its predecesors. Still a very good story with wonderful visuals and music.

Out of Park's three vengeance films, I like OLDBOY best, but this comes pretty close. This is often a difficult film to watch, but I love the moral conflicts that are addressed. There's a lot of great acting, lovely and creative visuals, and the soundtrack is nice. It makes me happy to see such bold filmmaking.
