Summary: An everyday guy decides to take justice into his own hands after a plea bargain sets his family's killers free. His target: The district attorney who orchestrated the deal. (imdb)
Law Abiding Citizen's plot is not all that plausible, having a few plot holes that are quite noticeable. Despite this, its a film that wants you to enjoy yourself while watching it. The acting isn't great, but it doesn't really need to be. The film will keep you on the edge of your seat, with the film staying interesting throughout. Not having clear-cut good and bad characters works well, and if the ending hadn't felt like such a cop-out, it would be a film recommended without thought.
Does the IMDB description really describe Butler's character as "an everyday guy"? That's laughably misleading. Aside from a supreme lack of plausibility in the plot (which I can excuse), I really can't appreciate a film that is purely based on moral ambiguity for the sake of moral ambiguity without any real discussion or meaningful resolution.
I didn't see any holes, and the fact that it's "unbelievable" is a moot point because its a fucking movie! I didn't feel the movie was flawed in any way. the acting was great, the dialogue was intriguing, the story was engaging, the scenes were great looking. stop looking for reasons to hate movies. Loved this one and I would gladly watch it again.
Movie would have been much, much better if he would have just gotten away at the end of it. Jamie Foxx should have been the first character killed. Bonus points though for Colm Meaney surviving to the end. Should have fucking taken charge though. Fuck Jamie Foxx.
This could have made a half decent "Punisher" flick if they upped the kill count a bit. Otherwise, I'm not sure if the point was that lawyers are pieces of shit who ruin the justice system or if it was that lawyers are pieces of shit who should be allowed to kill their clients. Also acting not good.
This spurs an awful lot of mixed feelings. On the one hand it's a reactionary mess with a moral that is somehow both blunt and wishy-washy. On the other hand the message is subordinate to a tense thriller with some really exciting, if unbelievable, twists and turns. As a pure ride I enjoyed it a lot even as I was put off by what it was saying.
