Summary: Bresson's first film is, totally uncharacteristically, a slapstick comedy, centred around two neighbouring republics, Crogandia and Miremia, and the various disasters that befall the ceremonial unveiling of a statue, the launching of a ship, and the crash-landing of a Miremian pilot in Crogandian territory. A very unusual work for Bresson standards, a slapstick comedy with lots of visual gags. What a shame that the only avaliable version of this movie is that wasted.

Bresson's first effort is his only short, and his only comedy. Likely inspired by Duck Soup, it's a slapsticky political farce. It's not completely horrible, but most of the gags are either predictable or just not that funny. If the Marx Brothers occasionally let a bit drag on too long, Bresson didn't give them enough time to breathe, rapidly throwing out one after the other. A very minor entry in the Bresson ouevre, but at least now I can say I've seen all of his work.
