A beautifully rendered, philosophically informed love story from Rohmer. The film begins with a compelling and dramatic exchange that helps keep the film moving through some of the more philosophical dialogue later. Rohmer's film reflects deeply on the nature of true love, of union with another, and with the existence and nature of God.

As Astrea and Celadon talk out their heartbreak, confusion, humility and ardor, Rohmer transports us visually, sentimentally, intellectually and spiritually.

This seemed really amateurish, even to the point of self-parody. I've only been to a few community theatre productions, but I recall them being performed at about the same level as this movie. Perhaps slightly better.
