The sort of film that should either have more story going for it, or less film going for it's story. Still, the story-line is appropriately restrained, and the ending is wonderfully terrifying. I think this might've made a better comedy film, though.

This is a great example of suspense being used on a level that is ever so slightly increased bit by bit, in line with a pyschological degeneration, ala Hitchcock at his best. Shot with film noir like lighting and sets, the ending is remarkable, full of utter dread; then finally climaxing with one of the best twists ever. And still we leave with questions, but also with certain scenes etched on our psyche, as we do with all good cinema.

Slow, but with a good payoff. Oh, and all movies should come with a warning like this one's: "Don't spoil this movie for your friends! Thank you on their behalf."

Fantastic solid thriller. Sucks you in from the start. The ending is extremely chilling. The acting, directing, camera work, setting, all are brilliant

Great thriller. The movie builds up tension really well and the last 10 minutes are extremely tense and creepy. Whether Hitchcock himself could have made it a better movie, I don't know. It doesn't really matter because this version is very good.

Not a lot to say that hasn't been already. It gets off to a bit of a slow start, but it quickly picks up steam and strangles you with tension. What an ending.

A classic of the French cinema. The movie is really great, especially for lovers of film-noir. Featuring a perfect rhythm and built with extraordinary ability, achieves a high level of suspense, especially in its first half. In the end there is a sharp turnaround, despite being a little convincing. But it is a great classic, worth watching, definitely.

So intense and cold. Everyone's just douchebags towards each other, only the kids have a good time. A masterful film with a peculiar, obstinate intensity.

I don't know what is so wonderful about that movie. The twist at the end only makes up a little for very elongated narrative with annoying characters. More or less a female version of Hitchcock's Rope.

The innermost circles of hell are reserved for child molesters and people who spoil movies. This film plays, depending on your taste either pleadingly or just plain playfully with this. And by golly I love it.

Diabolique is so far ahead of its time, it looks into the future and nods at Psycho and The Shining. It's got twists, it's got style, it's got suspense, it's got a homoerotic subtext! It's a keeper. Score is not a grade.
