Carné channels Cocteau in this magnificent surreal story about a pair of envoys of the devil whose task is to get a couple to fall in love with them. Everything in the film is gorgeous and the story is wonderfully done, easy to follow but complex enough to be interesting. While the film is not a comedy it has a light air and some moments with sharp wit.
