Summary: Thérèse (Casta), a young country girl, gets away with her husband in pursuit of a better life in the city. There, she finds out that her spirit is uncontrollable, that she is an "âme forte". She meets another savage soul, Madame Numance (Dombasle), the cultivated, elegant and mysterious benefactor of the city.
