Summary: An adventure set in the early party of the 20th century and focused on a popular novelist and her dealings with would-be suitors, the cops, monsters, and other distractions.
Overall Enjoyment: 10/40, Plot/Themes: 5/20, Cinematography/Direction: 5/20, Acting/Writing: 10/20 This movie attempted to be some sort of light-hearted Indiana Jones meets "strange quirky girl" sterotype, but it failed on both levels. The adventure scenes weren't very entertaining, her behavior wasn't very funny, and the two didn't mix well at all. They should have focused on just one aspect, and maybe then they would have made a decent movie.
very entertaining... Ameile meets Tomb raider meets Night at the museum...all mixed with french humour, wonderful storytelling of luc besson and great music of eric serra
A witty talking, strong headed heroine and charming Luc Besson storytelling. I was not that pleased with the CG, humor was not always for my taste and there was plot holes I did not like. But still there was incredible joyful voice acting that I pass the minuses. I expected more of Mathieu Amalric also. The result did not reached The Fifth Element quality.
Cloyingly precious and french in the worst way. We know from The 5th Element that Besson can pull off whimsy, but while this is nowhere near as bad as Arthur and the Whogivesafucks, he's still doing it wrong.
The lead actress has some poise and charisma but really this is just a day out for the special effects team, with a paper-thin story plagued by weak subplots and inane peripheral characters. Nice idea to bring this Indiana Croft character to the screen, but a very disappointing outcome given Besson's reputation.
A bit too Bessonish, thus couldn't be great. Meaning too much "french humour", which ruins most of the movie. If I'm specific, the mummies and hunter are most problematic. They should have been frightful and not so childish. Or even better, they should be cut out.
