Surprisingly effective. Sure, the main characters are kind of idiots, but that is essentially the point. Great acting and I always love seeing Lawrence on screen. Ending depressed me quite a bit and made me realize how I'd become attached, and some cuts are borderline genius in terms of effectiveness.

Flawed but almost hopelessly endearing. It's like A Man and A Woman for the new millennium (fuck that sounds cheesy).

English rose or California beach babe? That's Anton Yelchin's dilemma and the premise of the film - young love getting interrupted by circumstance and temptation. The way it's shot is so naturalistic and free of cheese that it's like an art-house version of how you'd want your love life to be if it were destined to end in pain. The only downside is there's no gripping climax or satisfying ending - the cycle could repeat endlessly as in real life. This film has eye-candy but it won't fill you up.

The way the film was shot was beautiful and I liked the pace that it moved (the editing was excellent). Having an ending that is open but contains equal parts happiness and melancholy was a *very* nice touch.

Although it offers genuine and down-to-earth performances and storytelling, that is ultimately its downfall. The story becomes undramatic and unengaging, the characters become selfish and uncharismatic, and the not-so-ambiguous ending kicks you in the gut and yells "long-term relationships don't work!!!"

The movie has a very simple premise but the way it is presented makes it very real. The performance of both the lead actors Anton Yelchin and Felicity Jones is praise worthy. The movies ending shows the journey they have been through.

It's definately one of those really simple love movies that don't try to be teenage/adult/comedy-centred but just show the things the way they happen in real life. Big kudos to that! The main actors contribute a lot to the feeling because the movie feels quite real. I was kind of disappointed by the ending though, because it's after all still a movie; I'd prefer a happy or sad ending. But meh, maybe that's just me. Definately one of the few non-pretentious love movies out there nowadays.

An odd film. On paper it is should work perfectly. It ticks all the boxes: two young successful (pseudo) artists, deep unjudgemental story-telling, beautiful short focus camerawork. It is almost a formula for indie fans. But the problem is I could never get with these two. Though honest and beautiful, their love was too possessive, too selfish. Perhaps that's why it doesn't work out. But all I was left with is two people who know it isnt going to work out without a sense of the tragedy of it.

Hard to get past the stupidity of the characters, but the aesthetic and the high quality of the acting and the general mood it put me in go a long way towards making up for some of the narrative shortfalls.

Like most of you, I was very enamored of the performances... But, what a mess of a second, and third Act! ...It becomes a movie about a Passport! ...Unfortunately, it left me indifferent. And, that's not good...

Finds the moments that set us free and the price that may be paid for those moments. There is an unhappy symmetry and a devestating lack of malice in this story of two people who keep hurting each other despite their best intentions. I found the approach skipped a few too many details, but the acting is superb and the style, while a touch generic, is effective.

A real subtle and simple story told with poise that felt completely genuine. Felicity Jones absolutely nails her performance. Just by looking at her face and mannerisms, she controls and forces her self upon scenes. Beautifully tragic and I loved it.

Dear, oh dear, she overstayed her student visum. Drama ensues. Not really. I have been in this situation myself, and it is much more dramatic and frustating as shown here. The director should have done his homework better. Missed chance.
