Yes it was some what racist but so is the Birth of a Nation and that's regarded as one of the most importaint movies of all times (because of techinque though). I don't think the racism alone is a reasoin to give bad credits. A basic short story of it's time.
I actually watched this a lot as a kid on a videotape that we had. If my parents had found out they would have taken it away, justifiably. It's a good thing that I didn't connect the "blackface" caractature with actuaal black people at that age, I thought it was just some random humanoid figure. Thank God.
I am able to forgive a lot of racism in old films, putting the blame on our past society rather then on the filmmakers (I still love Gone with the Wind), but this is just boring with uninteresting animation.
