Dorothy Dell died in a car accident just a week after this movie was released which gives this a somber tone when watching. Because her and little Shirley Temple got along so great which is evident watching this. Adolphe Menjou seemed to melt for her too which made for a real sweet little story. Of course it was gonna be like that. It's a Shirley Temple movie and the formula is simple. Find situations where she'll just charm you to death, add a song and let the rest take it's course.
