Unexpectedly faithful adaptation of Winsor McKay's classic turn-of-the-century comic strip degenerates somewhat in the final third, but is well worth the seeing for its top-notch animation and extraordinary realization of McKay's designs and vision.

If Miyazaki had stayed with it, I'm sure it would be up there with those masterpieces...

Well-done children's film that will hold k-12's attention. (Some parts may be a little scary for younger children.)

I loved this when I was a kid, but looking back... The story and characters don't quite to the animation justice.

If I hear 'pajama' one more time, I will sue Chris Colombus (he produced this).

Although it suffers from a few Disney-swiped tropes of the day (an unnecessary and annoying animal sidekick, pointless song sequences), the animation is strong and it's got an entertaining and amusing dream-like atmosphere that makes it great for its target audience. However, I'll freely admit I bumped it a few points because the NES game it inspired is one of my favorite games. Also, PAJAMA PAJAMA PAJAMA PAJAMA

Fantastic children's animation bearing the legacy of a dying breed.

I feared the worst when I saw all the Japanese names in the credits, but when all is said and done this is more guilty of falling victim to the worst Western animation tropes (animal sidekick, excessive sentimentality and saccharine, corny songs) than anime's faults. Voice acting is subpar as well. Really the film's only strengths are in its vivid backgrounds and character animation.

Get rid of the pointless songs and this would be nothing short of a near=perfect animated fantasy.

Solid fantasy, maybe too solid. with all due respect to Windsor McCay even Ghibli studios couldn't really make this fly beyond the known horizon. then again, it's old material and I appreciate a real adaptation.

I was really into this as a child, even if it's mostly derivative pap. But come on. Read that synopsis. Sounds pretty badass, doesn't it?

As a kid, this was one of my favorite films. To this day, I still enjoy it very much. ::thumbs up::
