A few quote samples, to give you an idea: "I AM IN AN INDIAN RESTAURANT." "I have made my decision." "Tis a decision I have made." "IVAAAAAAN." "THIS IS THE BIGGEST FUCKING CONCRETE POUR IN EUROPE." "A baby is something that can't be stopped." "I must do what needs to be done."

A feature-length BMW commercial with some of the most contrived dialogue I've ever heard. Still, Hardy manages to turn this rather underwhelming story into something quite gripping and worthwhile, which is an amazing feat. Just manage your expectations and expect a lot of lines like "TIS A DECISION I HAVE MADE".

This would have been better purposed as a podcast, or actually scrapped entirely since it is plotless and excruciatingly boring. I look forward to Locke 2: The Drive Back. Or maybe that'll be the third film, and part 2 can be riveting conversations in "Hospital Hallway." The drunk foreman has one final crisis..."Ivan, what comes after 5?" "Eddie, didn't you learn numbers? Are you really asking me a question? Eddie, look at the white board. Eddie, it is 6!" *Dramatic Call Waiting Beeps*

i had no idea what to expect, but that's often a good prerequisite. it's about as interesting as the subject matter allows, and tom hardy is excellent. i didn't care much for his "father-monologues", they were a bit too clichéd and felt like forced expository dialogue ("Look at me! I had a bad childhood! That explains why I am a messed up control freak!"), but the rest was engaging and suspenseful.

It's a bit of a gimmick, I suppose, but it's executed so wonderfully as for any complaints to prove utterly unfounded. Tom Hardy's performance as Ivan Locke, our sole on-screen character, is a great one, and as his life faces increasingly difficult challenges navigable only through the course of several dozen phone calls, his ever-increasing frustration is palpable yet remarkably restrained. A thoroughly gripping, enveloping experience.

Hardy is fantastic and the story is really well-executed, but the editing and cinematography don't have the guts to focus on what's important - we keep drifting to silly shots out the window and with Ivan framed awkwardly. I guess it's to create "visual interest" but it overlooks the most visually interesting thing in the film - physical response to his horrible situation and inexorable confinement.

A construction foreman (Tom Hardy) abandons his project and his family to attend the birth of his illegitimate child, and his attempts to control the situation expose his limitations. A fascinating meditation on responsibility and what it means to be a good person and to do the right thing, with Hardy (the only character we see on-screen) making the most of a one-man show. The visuals do get a bit monotonous and there's a couple of minor contrivances, but it's never less than gripping.

This acting exercise is no more than an experiment, not a complete film. It's as if Knight took the middle part out of a finished film and stretched it beyond anything worthy of defending, as a creative liberty. Many paid critics called it and I'm calling it again: Locke is simply not a good film, apart from Hardy delivering as always. Zero re-watch value.

Having no concrete information as to its plot/story other than the vague notion that the film mostly takes place in a car, I really thought Locke was an action film. Imagine my surprise when it turns out to be a character drama. And a damn good one, too. The fact that the whole thing works is a testament to the strength of the script and to Tom Hardy's skill as an actor.

Tom Hardy cements his status as a movie star in this film. This is a fantastic character study about a passionate and precise man trying to solve a human conflict. I love what it said about his work. I loved the lead's personality. I thoroughly enjoyed what this film said about being a family man. The movie is a LITTLE small, but makes up for that in the wonderful writing, acting, and beautiful end music. Overall it is a great film, reminding you of how to cherish life's special moments

Tom Hardy is an interesting man. Everything he does is good and he is always 100% invested in his roles. Despite being a single location (his car), it never drags on (thankfully the run time on this is quite short). Not an amazing movie, but definitely good.

Limiting the scope of this regular drama to a single car ride elevates it a bit, plus it has Hardy killin' it. A bit on the nose at times, and ends suddenly despite feeling drawn-out towards the end. Still, I found it a rather gripping watch about a man following his principles no matter what damage it leaves in his wake.

The film has the type of premise that presents a challenge to the filmmaker and viewer. Wanting to see if the filmmakers can successfully pull it off is part of what draws viewers in. The verdict: they were fairly successful. I also went in with high expectations about Hardy's performance, which may have got in the way--I thought his performance was fine, but not necessarily exceptional. 85 min run time appealed to me. ps70

a really stellar film! such a brilliant exercise in character and narrative form - it's literally a guy in a car answering phone calls for an hour, and it's the most engaging thing i've seen in months. it owes so much to tom hardy's perfectly nuanced performance, and even more to a meticulously constructed script. it accomplishes so much with nothing, and really proves that story ultimately makes or breaks your film. for pulling off its premise as it has, this film deserves a standing ovation.

An absurd 80 minute drive that manages to be very intriguing, tense and intimate. Knight has done a great job creating such dynamic movie within a confined space, "Locke" depends on a great performance and Hardy delivers it. Tom Hardy acts very while driving his car. There is no denying that Hardy and even the phone callers put in an amazing performance and maybe even the script is pretty solid, but there's just only so much you can do in one location (that is moving). It does its best, but it just ends up being a bore sometimes. I can't knock the overall film too much, but it's just not compelling enough to really fill that hour and a half.

Wow! This was a complete waste of Tom Hardy's talent! 1 h 20 min of Hardy talking on the phone in a car and then the movie ends suddenly out of nowhere. Hardy did a great job whit what he was given but no actor in the world would make this a good movie. This movie should never have been made! If you are entertained with only dialogues and no action what so ever then this might be one of the best movies you will ever see! I mean that in a bad way for the movie and a good way for Tom Hardy!

Instantly grabbed me. The intelligent script along with Hardy's awesome performance quickly and effectively crafted a well defined and likable character. I was hanging on every word. Knight does an admirable job keeping the direction fresh despite the obvious single setting limitations. Some may say that this would have been better suited as a stage play or a short story, but I disagree. I enjoy seeing a cinematic take on a seemingly un-cinematic premise, especially when it's this well done.

Interesting concept, fantastic execution. This movie could be experienced as a radio play, but the fantastic cinematography is anything but useless. Tom Hardy kills it as a man struggling to keep his life together. I love the way this movie handles its slice-of-life aspect; A lot is implied and very little is shown, but it all feels real. I identified with and rooted for Locke, even though his flaws are apparent, and it's challenging to think about what you would do in a similar situation.

Unique but boring. For the first half hour I was interested by the film's unique style and I had all sorts of ideas about who the lead character was and what had happened to him. Bit of trouble rating this one because while I commend the film, and Hardy in particular, for making this run-of-the-mill, contained story fully engrossing, I feel like Knight wrote himself into a massive corner and just decided to end the film there. The story could've used an actual character arc. Hardy, though, jeeze. I think the man's finally wiggled into my list of favorite actors, which was a long time coming before this.

Very well written script by Steven Knight - taking an idea that's been done to death and breathing new life into it. He didn't stop there though, he also directed the film. From the shots of Tom Hardy's (Ivan Locke) face in half the frame with the road on the other half to the symbolism of the mirrors and the GPS, Knight effectively made the environment feel so much more than just the car. I could write this all on Hardy's performance as well. I found myself hanging on his every word.

Tom Hardy drives in one direction for 80 minutes; much to the disappointment of the F&F fanbase, this isn't Mad Max. Hardy's performance is great (as is his Welsh accent). This is the kind of film that is best watched without knowing any plot details (though knowing the genre is useful). The film is well-shot (given the limited setting) and an impressive script that satisfyingly delves into the titular character. Above all the film feels very real, yet still remains interesting and thrilling.

Why can't anyone say bye when they talk on the phone in movies? This is the only problem I have with the best movie that takes place in one location since 12 Angry men, though I can't think of any others I've seen. I haven't felt this emotional about a movie in a while and I think it is probably because the camera never left Tom Hardy's face. Movies like Phone Booth and Buried used a similar setup where their self-mandated limitations forced them to come up with an intriguing plot/story. They were thrillers about people forced to deal with extraordinary circumstances. Locke is different... it's about a guy driving to London having normal conversations (compared to those other movies). It's interesting watching Hardy give a great performance as a guy whose life is unravelling. It's very human and well-written.

For a film that just needs an actor and a director to narrate this auto-therapy story, Locke feels actually pretty excessive (it comprises so many phone calls to to compensate off-screen characters and situations that it might as well have been a big-budgeted picture) and not so subtle as many critics have pointed out. This is not some white-knuckled thriller like you might expect, even knowing that it takes place entirely within a car, as the story details are surprisingly mundane (one of the main plot points is a big concrete pour). This is really a character study, with a very good performance at the center of it. It doesn't quite meet its potential, as there's no real opportunity for interesting visuals, there are not very many threads to follow and there are some silly moments, but it's not bad.

A well acted and interesting drama about a man making phone calls in his luxury automobile. You see the momentous ups and downs of his life and the drama from such a mundane line of work as a foreman tasked with pouring concrete. Hardy's acting was flawless but unfortunately there were some rather weak moments by the other actors, such as the wife. The concrete itself seems symbolic of the fluid uncertainty of life and how certain decisions made have permanent intractable consequences.

This should be titled "Locke(d) in a Car", as the whole film takes place in a pretty nice BMW. Tom Hardy plays the part of Ivan Locke, a man who is haunted by a terrible father, takes a long car ride towards London. Why is he going to London? Well, he made one big mistake and he's going to do the right thing. This is one movie I can get behind.
