An exciting London gangster film, but it feels like the action comes too late, and the film finishes in an anti-climactic manner.

The movie is supposed to be the stylish British gangster movie that have been made. The movie ends up neither being a stylish movie or a gangster movie. The movie meanders through multiple plots without and direction. The movie isnt something that one should or must watch and can be passed.

Well I quite liked, if only for that fact the producers/casting directory clearly have a lot of talent for friends. "Taut" "thriller"? No, not really, no.

I think there are enough film with super-rich/artist females and their bodyguards with a dark past as to constitute a genre on their own - this being the last.

Like an unholy amalgam of Get Shorty and Layer Cake, devoid of the humor of the former and the focused pacing of the latter. There's the story, meandering with subtlety of a bull in a china shop, unable to pick a plot and stick with. Everything about the film is random either due to terrible hack editing or a director unable to decide on a theme and throwing out moments of pointless violence, pointless characters and shallow beauty in a buffet of drunken nihilism.

"Ridiculous!" would Harry Potter say if David Thewlis brought him along. The script was worst for a long time. Thewlis's character was the only interesting one. Nothing more.

Started out loving this but ended up dissappointed. Thewlis, Winstone, Knightley, Friel and Farrell ( fast becoming a favourite actor) did a great job with a reasonable script, the music score is terrific, and the cinematography is really enjoyable .... but the problem here is the story is not believeable or coherent. For 75% of the movie you sense a really sinister situation developing which in the end is fully "resolved" in a surprising way, but only because of an unrealistic storyline.

A film with Marsan, Farrell, Friel, Thewlis, Graham, Winstone has some of the cream of British acting. All of the above give excellent performances. Add that to a beautifully photographed film, in a genre I enjoy, and I'd think that would be a recipe for a massive success. Instead the film is confused. The moments that are intended to be funny are brief and underplayed; those that are intended to be shocking have been seen before in other films. There's no flow and the plot lacks plausibility.

Not every criminal wants to be one, its cliched, too obvious and a waste of the undoubted talent they somehow got involved in this rather limited plot. I just couldn't find the necessary sympathy for the central pairing, the 'tortured' star and unwilling criminal, around which the entire premise of the movie hinges.
