I did not know that Edo-era Japan was the origin of downhill skiing. Learn something new every day, huh?

Starting the last film in the series, I hoped this would pick up in quality after the dull fifth film, bringing in a supernatural angle and the infamous title of having one of the highest body counts in cinema. Sadly it's an anti-climax, one that is exceptionally weak as a single film, despite its best parts, even if a seventh had existed. After the great beginning to the series, it sadly stumbled from the fourth film onwards.

Its a shame the series ended with this to be honest, it is so far beyond ridiculous (even compared to the rest of the series) that a lot of it is pretty laughable. Still, there was a good atmosphere building up in the first half with the whole "Five Wheels" technique thing. What a long way down from Baby Cart to Hades....

Achieves a few moments of transcendant beauty, and the quick, brutal swordfights ... are thrilling.

A stupid way to end an otherwise enjoyable series. To its credit, the supernatural subplot and the fight at the lake house are both excellent. But the conclusion, poorly shot and relying too heavily on a gimmick (skiing ninjas), is absolutely atrocious. Very disappointing.

The sixth and final film of the series is a bit of a let down, but still good. I tried to keep track of the number of people Itto personally kills in the final battle, and lost count somewhere around 65. Comic book violence on an epic scale.

A nice change with the supernatural twists but unfortunately it has an anti-climactic ending. What a poor way to end an otherwise fantastic series.
